First off, let it be said that I did not sign up for this. Nobody consulted me, and I was quite happy with status quo back in the canyon country of western Colorado. BUT, I am resilient, and I love my parents, so here I am, living in Fairbanks, Alaska. A bit about my new life….
It turns out that people think dogs need shoes in this part of the world. I was dragged off to the pet store for a “fitting” and, as you can imagine, was not amused. Mom chimed in regarding aesthetics and fashion and such, so I ended up with a pink set, which matches my collar and leash. (Dads are hopeless in that department.)
So while I have this new set of shoes, I don’t wear them yet. There is a lot of snow, and we walk lots every day, but it’s weird snow here, very dry. In fact, the kids can’t even make snowballs because it’s just so powdery. With the exception of humiliating photo shoots for the benefit of you readers, my shoes so far remain in the closet. I don’t even wear them running with my Dad, who is training for a half marathon in Florida next month.
There are lots of great things to smell and discover here, much to my delight and my folks’ dismay. I’d like to say that the below photo shows the only moose part I’ve found around our property, but it wouldn’t be true. I’ve had more upset tummies here than ever before, too. Correlation?
So life here is pretty good, all in all.
