That's how I affectionately refer to Collin's family, some of whom recently came to Fairbanks for a visit.  Collin's sister, brother-in-law and mother traveled from Colorado to see what our life is all about up here in the Last Frontier.  Among other adventures, we:
  • successfully identified, harvested and ate some delectable wild mushrooms
  • survived a flipped canoe on our trip down the Chena River
  • visited Denali National Park
  • saw Collin's "office" at Fort Wainwright
  • sampled local beer from Hoodoo
  • tried out aerial yoga
  • set some birds free at the Alaska Songbird Institute
  • enjoyed healthy, local fare like caribou burgers (thanks, Brent), line-caught halibut (thanks, Abby), Copper River salmon, endless salad greens (thanks, Ellen) and fresh-from-my-garden rhubarb crumble
  • converted two new Fairbanks Fans in Dede and Dave

cheechako - a newcomer to Alaska, ignorant of the terrain, the weather, the animals, the culture, the necessary driving skills in the winter, etc. Opposite of a sourdough.
